Rare and very early (1 mil serial) Rolex Cosmograph 6239
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 6239
Second Series – Early 1964 (1.0M Serial)
A beautifully preserved second-series Rolex Cosmograph 6239, produced in early 1964.
The first 6239s appeared in 1963; this watch represents the very next generation, retaining all the desirable early components while showing the evolutionary updates Rolex introduced after the inaugural run.
What makes this second-series example special
• Extended hour and minute hands
Second-series 1964 examples still used the longer hour and minute hands found only on the earliest Cosmographs.
• Early style sub-dial hands
Fitted with the long, fine early-type register hands, exclusive to the first two series of the 6239.
• Deep, glossy sub-dials
The sub-dials remain deeply recessed with a gloss finish, a hallmark of early 6239 production.
• “— T SWISS T —” dial printing (with hyphens)
This very specific layout — dash, T SWISS T, dash — is a known signature of second-series 1964 dials.
It appears only in this period and is an important originality marker.
• Early ‘star-cut’ tachymeter bezel
The watch retains the rare early star-cut bezel, thicker and sharper with an additional outer facet.
This bezel type is seen on first- and second-series 6239s only (1963–1964).
• Correct Valjoux 72B movement – early intact configuration
Inside is the proper Valjoux 72B, original to second-series production.
This example still has the anti-shock bridge above the hairspring.
Although this feature also appeared on some later 72B executions, it is almost always removed during servicing, making surviving examples uncommon and highly valued.
